About the artist

As an Architect, having done Art at school, I have retained an interest in all things related; I enjoy the satisfaction of sketching and painting, outdoors and in the studio. I find painting and sketching are both very stimulating and I look forward to learning – and trying - something new every day.
My approach to the subject is generally impressionistic, bordering on the whimsical – I see things in terms of a variety of colour, tone, and shapes, needing to retain both light and interest within my finished works. My paintings contain a narrative which invites the viewer to look further into the subject; ordinary scenes transformed into something magical.
I undertake many demonstrations and workshops, both at home in the UK and abroad, where I also like to showcase my work whenever possible.
Apart from the approbations from my local art associations, my awards include:
The BBC’s Little Painting Challenge 2014/15; (Finalist with two entries exhibited in the Exhibition at Whitworth Gallery Manchester).
Daler-Rowney winner at TALP Patchings Art Festival, Nottingham, in 2019.
Society of All Artists, Artist of the Year 2020 - Highly Commended; resulting in a two-page article in SAA Paint Magazine January 2021, demonstrating my techniques.
A Supporting All Artists Award from the SAA Artist of the Year entries 2022, and Third Place SAA Artist of the Year 2024 (Land, Sea & City category); this also resulted in another article in SAA Paint Magazine, Spring 2024.
And overseas, in 2023 an award at the International Art Festival in Uckange, France.
